Tottenham slump to ten man United

Manchester united exhibited a scintillating performance at white hart lane to ward off the seeming speed of tottenham up the premiership table. Jermaine Defoe struck first blood with probably the fastest goal in the premiership for a long time to come when he attempted a scissors kick that ended at the back of the net after just about 50 seconds of play. Evergreen Ryan giggs equalized for the defending champions with a well taken free kick in the 25 minute after berbatov was brought down.

Brazilian born Anderson made it two for united with a blistering shot after a loose from paul scholes intial attempt wasn't cleared by the spurs defense. Scholes received a red card for the second bookable offense after a silly challenge on huddlestone. United clustered the midfield in order to hold spurs imminent attacks leaving Rooney alone upfront.

United finally made it three goals in the 78th minute after a clear cut pass by Darren Fletcher in the united path to connect the rampaging Rooney who shrugged off two spurs defenders to put the ball in between the legs of the spurs keeper cudicini. United held on to maintain the scoreline and bag three maximum vital points. Manchester is now in second position with 12 points from five games before current league leaders Chelsea.
